This is the most delightful read. Ela is open and emotionally honest. She unapologetically talks of her struggles to find a place in the varied worlds that her arranged marriage and her husbands professional decisions placed her. Her strength and tenacity are called on repeatedly as circumstances keep throwing her jolting curves. She picks herself up and begins building again each time. This memoir reads as a close friend sharing her most formative experiences over a cup of tea. The intimacy of her writing takes you with her.

Very detailed experiences of life for an Indian girl...marriage to an arranged husband and her life starting out in America. Insightful, memorable and honestly hard to put down. I can't wait to continue the journey. Well done!

I liked how honest the author was in describing the trials she went through alone in a new country. With no family and no support she was married to a stranger and moved from India to America. The author walks us through her struggles without sugar coating her emotions and her reactions.

I loved comparing her growing years in India with mine in America. Life and courtship here in the USA by comparison has been easy. I can’t imagine leaving my family to marry and create a life in a foreign country with a man unknown to me. Wow what strength, determination, and kindness, as she reaches out to support this country, her community and women throughout the world with Zonta.

I really loved this book and didn't want it to end! It was very interesting and insightful. As a child of immigrant parents this book really resonated with me and I was able to discover a newfound gratitude towards what I have right now considering it was built on the struggles my parents went through. I believe lots of young adults my age would find this story eye opening. Can't wait for the second part!

I so enjoyed this book. Recommend to anyone. Ela's story is fun to read, but challenging at points as she describes some of the obstacles and issues she and her family faced, and very compelling. She gave me a glimpse into a totally different world. Her upbringing in India is fascinating, and I love how she threads it into a narrative that talks about what she is doing today. The insight into an arranged marriage to a doctor training in America was particularly fascinating.
